The most popular educator on YouTube does not have a Ph.D. He has never taught at a college or university. And he delivers all of his lectures from a bedroom closet.

This upstart is Salman Khan, a 33-year-old who quit his job as a financial analyst to spend more time making homemade lecture videos in his home studio. His unusual teaching materials started as a way to tutor his faraway cousins, but his lectures have grown into an online phenomenon—and a kind of protest against what he sees as a flawed educational system.

“My single biggest goal is to try to deliver things the way I wish they were delivered to me,” he told me recently.

Facebook has released a refreshed Insights dashboard that provides deeper analytics on user demographics, “Likes,” shares and reshares. The dashboard is designed for page owners, publishers using the new social plugins and application developers.

The aggregate data covered in the new dashboard essentially highlights Facebook users’ sharing behavior related to both content on and off the site with better data, graphs and charts.

Users can visualize top level info, as well as drill down to look at specific metrics around individual stories and comments “Liked” on the page. Graphs in the Insights dashboard can even be saved, printed, or upsized and viewed in full screen mode.

Domain administrators who associate their domain with a user ID, page or application can view detailed — yet anonymous — demographic data for each domain. These demographic visualizations cover gender, age, country, city and language breakdowns for a comprehensive look at audience makeup.

Application developers can get information about referral traffic to their applications, feedback on stream stories and other significant data on user engagement with the application.

The refreshed Insights dashboard appears to be designed to prove to publishers and application developers that sharing and the new Instant Personalization feature are being heavily adopted by users. It’s a smart upgrade that will better help business-oriented Facebook users measure progress within the social network and on their own pages.

AT&T is throwing out their $30/mo unlimited wireless internet plan and offering customers a choice between $15/mo for 200 megabytes (400 photos or 100 minutes of streaming video) or $25/mo for 2 gigabytes.

This is expected to end up saving 98% of customers money. The remaining 2% of customers that use more than 2 gigabytes per month attribute to slowing down the network; the tiny fraction of customers end up accounting for 40% of the network’s traffic each month.

Customers will be introduced to these two separate plans beginning June 7. AT&T says the $15/mo plan should be fine for 65% of customers. With this plan, most customers should end up saving $70/mo on their phone bills.

Creative web technologist Joseph Dee and systems designer Matthew Milan of Toronto, Canada asked Facebook users to dump the social networking service, citing privacy concerns.

They created a website, which declared May 31 as “Quit Facebook Day” and provided alternatives to the popular social networking site, such as Twitter or Flickr.

“If you agree that Facebook doesn’t respect you, your personal data or the future of the web, you may want to join us,” the website reads.

Currently 31, 549 Facebook users are committed to quitting. I’m going to bet most of these users will return in under a couple of months. I’ve “quit” Facebook a number of times myself and always end up returning because Facebook is how I keep up with local events. I recently quit over my own privacy concerns, only to rejoin under my alias “Warrant Neximus”.

Flockoo search results currently give a list of your followers in the entered location. With this list you can either use it to make a list or you can tweet the results. But… that’s all it does. We can attach our exact location to our tweets now, so I expected Flockoo would take advantage of that.
